Are Plug-In Solar kits easy to install?
Installing a Plug-In Solar kit requires NO experience, and is a simple plug and play assembly. You don’t need to be a qualified electrician, just a ‘skilled person’ [1].  You can install your Plug-In Solar kit in the GARDEN, on the PATIOSHEDPERGOLAWORKSHOPGARAGESTABLE, BEACH HUT, SUMMER HOUSE, OFFICE or HOUSE roof. Anywhere with a mains grid connection. It’s up to you.

The Plug-In Solar Advantage
With standard Solar PV kits, electricity generation is dependent on the panel that is performing the worst.  These types of systems will will not perform well with panels that are oriented in multiple directions or if panel shading is an issue.

Our Plug-In Solar Kits use Micro-Inverters to take full advantage of the production capability of each individual solar panel, regardless of shade or orientation to the sun. This ensures each panel can produce the maximum power and is not affected by the performance of another panel in the array.

The Plug-In Solar System is flexible, and modular so you can design a kit to fit your current budget and energy needs, and expand it later as you wish. The system is completely modular, meaning if you want to add more panels, or a solar battery, this can be simply achieved.

Plug-In Solar Kits are also Energy Storage Ready, meaning a battery system can easily be added to our kits using the Enphase AC Battery Storage Module.

The Solar Panel
The 3.2kW Plug-in Solar kit is supplied with 10 x 320W MCS certified monocrystalline solar panels. This solar panel has a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty and a 25 year 80% power performance guarantee.

The Enphase Micro-Inverter
This Plug In Solar Kit is supplied with G98 certified Enphase IQ7 Micro-Inverters.  The Micro-Inverters convert direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) for use in your home.  As such, they form the heart of the Plug-in Solar Kit. The Enphase Micro-Inverter has a 25 year manufacturer guarantee.

The Enphase Envoy S Standard Monitoring Unit
The Enphase Envoy S Standard is an integral component of the Enphase Microinverter System, and is required for all Plug-In Solar Kits over 800W, in order to ensure compliance with the UK’s G98 Regulations.  The Enphase Envoy allows you to monitor each individual solar panel in your installation, via the Enphase Enlighten App.  More information about the Enphase Envoy can be seen here: Enphase Envoy

The Flat Roof / Ground Mount Kit
This Plug In Solar Kit is supplied with 10 x Renusol Console+ Tubs, which supports the modules, allowing ballasting (gravel, paving slabs, bricks, rocks etc) and is non-penetrative. The Renusol Console+ is fixed at 15 degrees and can be fitted on the ground, or on flat roofs with a pitch of up to 5 degrees. These are warrantied for 10 years.

The Plug-In Solar Connection Unit
This Plug In Solar Kit includes a Plug-In Solar Connection Unit, which is used to connect the solar to the mains grid. The solar can be connected as part of a ring main, as a spur from a ring main or on their own radial circuit.  The switch is 13A, Double Pole and ensures the solar can be isolated from the rest of the grid if necessary, as required by the regulations.

All components within the Plug In Solar kit comply fully with the G98 requirements and have MCS certifications, where applicable.  All certifications/warranties available on request

Can I upgrade my Plug-In Solar Kit?
All of our kits are available for upgrade to a higher wattage solar panel. Please see our Solar Panel Page for available Solar Panels. Please email us for a bespoke quotation for this kit with the upgraded solar panels you have chosen.

You can also add solar energy battery storage to this Plug-In Solar kit by adding an Enphase AC Battery Storage Module.These are modular battery units that can be daisy chained in order to achieve the storage capacity you require.

    I finished my installation of this kit a week ago. Mark put together a slightly modified version so I actually have 10x315W panels with the microinverters and envoy unit. The installation has gone on a new garden room roof.
    All parts of customer contact and delivery were excellent and Mark is very quick to respond.

    I found the physical aspects of installing the panels a little more than I anticipated. My son helped me lift the panels onto the roof as they are large to handle.
    I put some ballast in the renusol tubs after I had placed them on the roof and it would be nice if they gave a little more practical guidance on this rather than refer to to EU wind loading factor calculations. So I used my best guess, it’s a low roof and the panels and tubs themselves are moveable so I put some ballast in.

    The connection part is straightforward with the preconnected lead. Placing of the plug in solar isolator unit needed a little more thought and I ended up adding in to the newly installed ring main next to a socket.

    The envoy unit proved a little more confusing. It’s really made to be hidden away and needs it’s own supply though it doesn’t explicitly say.
    I ended up putting it in an outside IP54 box with a 20A MCB as recommended in their manual. I’d say this part requires a little more thought and planning though there isn’t much wiring to do.
    There are two CTs supplied, one for generation and one for load. I’ve yet to fit the load one as it requires extending the CT cable from our garden room to meter cabinet, but it is optional.
    The evoke unit has an installation app which is reasonably good with a bit of guess work, and a separate enlighten app which I really like as usage is uploaded automatically over wifi and gives you instant indication as to how panels are generating.

    All in all a brilliant system and I’m really pleased with it. Putting in 10 panels was quite a lot of physical work and the wiring needs perhaps a little more thought due to the monitoring unit wiring and placement. My meter is currently spinning backwards so I guess the G98 form submission with a photograph of the meter might prompt a change of meter. I’m not sure if it’s actually clocking backwards but it’s fascinating to switch on a kettle and see it slow to a standstill and gently reverse!
