Octopus Energy’s Greg Jackson appointed to Cabinet Office to advise UK government
In his role on the Cabinet Office Board, Jackson will bring his energy industry expertise to give an external perspective on government strategy.
Greg Jackson, founder of the UK’s biggest energy provider Octopus Energy, has been appointed as a non-executive member of the UK government Cabinet Office Board, where he will serve for three years.
The Cabinet Office Board comprises Cabinet Office ministers, senior executives, and non-executives from outside government.
Non-executives are responsible for providing support and challenge to ministers and senior officials on the delivery of key policies and programmes.
Jackson has been a loud energy industry voice and advocate. In his role on the Cabinet Office Board, Jackson will bring his energy industry expertise to give an external perspective on government strategy. This will likely centre on how to implement technology rapidly to help improve services.
As well as supplying energy to domestic and business properties, Octopus Energy Group has divisions that provide low carbon technologies such as heat pumps and smart meters (technologies that also provide customer savings).
It has pioneered the ‘Zero Bills’ homes initiative, which enables homes with Solar Panels and Battery Storage to have no bills for 5 years.
The energy management offshoot Kraken also supports projects including Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus Energy’s electric vehicle (EV) tariff, that manages a cumulative 1GW of EV batteries.
Jackson also had a role in founding telemedicine provider Consultant Connect, something he said he is “as proud of” as Octopus: “Just as Octopus has done so much to make energy better and more efficient, so CC delivered significant benefits for the NHS.”
